Thiruvananthapuram:
Kerala actor Sreejith Ravi -- who often appeared as a villain on screen -- found himself embroiled in a controversy after a group of 14 schoolgirls from Palakkad alleged that he had indecently exposed himself to them. The 40-year-old actor was detained by the police this afternoon and the questioning is still on.
Mr Ravi has rubbished the allegations, saying neither he, nor his car was at the scene of crime.
According to sources, the girls alleged that on August 27, a man had come by in a car, stopped and exposed himself while they were on their way to school. Their statements have been recorded by the police and a case has been filed.
The children's rights committee says it cannot disclose information about the children as it would compromise their identity.
A case was filed the next day after the school principal lodged a complaint with the police, giving details of the incident.
Sources said though the actor had been identified by some the girls, he had not been officially named in the complaint since it could turn out to be a case of mistaken identity. But the police have confirmed that the number of the car provided by the girls does belong to the actor.
"The police have asked two girls to report to the police station on September 30 and identify the car and the person. The girls have identified the person as Sreejith Ravi. But it still needs to be verified if this is correct, or a case of mistaken identity," a source told NDTV.
