Mumbai:
For a city that's known to barely have a winter season, when temperatures drop enough in Mumbai that people are forced to switch off air conditioners and fans, its big news.
The head of the Regional Meteorological Centre, V K Rajeev told NDTV, "The drop in temperature is caused by northerly winds which are cold. This is causing areas like Mumbai to see a drop in temperature. This trend is likely to continue for another two to three days.
The lowest temperature recorded by the city is at 10.6 degrees Celsius in 1949. Yesterday the temperature recorded was 11.6, which was lower than the temperature recorded at hill stations nearby like Mahabaleshwar.
Today the temperature recorded is 11.4 degrees Celsius and it could dip further over the next two days, the met department said. The lowest temperature recorded in this decade is 11.4 degrees Celsius in 2011.
Residents of Mumbai have welcomed the drop in temperature as it gives the them a chance to bring out their woollens even if for a brief stretch.
