By now you've probably seen and swooned over Arshad Khan, Islamabad's blue-eyed chaiwalla. At the very least, you've seen Twitter swooning over him. Now, with thanks in no small part to social media's collective gushing over him, Arshad has landed himself a modelling contract.
According to a post shared by online clothing and fashion brand Fitin.pk, the chaiwalla is changing careers. "Now he is a fashion wala!"
Arshad, who has 17 siblings, is overwhelmed yet happy with the attention he's getting and told a local news channel that between 30-50 women have had their picture taken with him. "Subah se bahut khushi ho rahi hai," he said, "Kareeban tees se pachas ladkiyan aake chali gayi hain, tasveerein banake, video banake chali gayin hain."
Modelling could well be a stepping stone to celluloid glory. Wouldn't say no to a movie offer, the 18-year-old told the reporter interviewing him.
It seems he only has more attention coming his way, so he'd better get used to it soon.
It all started when Islamabad-based photographer Jiah Ali spotted Arshad Khan during a photo walk around the city's Sunday Bazaar. She clicked his picture and shared it on Instagram on October 14. Little did she know that the photo would go insanely viral within four or five days.
"I didn't expect [such a fuss] at all," Ms Ali told Images. "It's very surprising."
The picture made its way onto Twitter, as pictures do, and Arshad was the top trending topic in Pakistan on Monday.
On public demand, Ms Ali shared more pictures from her photo walk.
She also met Arshad again.
This is how Twitter initially reacted to Arshad Khan.
