Top 10 richest in Forbes 2014 list

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is back on top of the list of the world's richest people. Gates' net worth is estimated at $76 billion, according to Forbes magazine's 2014 list of world's richest people. Forbes says a record 1,645 billionaires made the list this year, with an average net worth of $4.7 billion.

Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim Helu, who had topped the list for the past four years, follows Gates with net worth of $72 billion, according to Forbes.

Spanish clothing magnate Amancio Ortega ($64 billion), known for the Zara retail chain, maintained his third-ranked spot in the Forbes list.

US investor Warren Buffett ($58.2 billion) was ranked fourth in the Forbes list.

Larry Ellison of Oracle came in fifth with net worth of $48 billion.

Charles G. Koch is chairman of the board and CEO of Koch Industries, a position he has held since 1967. His net worth was estimated at $40 billion. Koch Industries is involved in refining, chemicals and biofuels; forest and consumer products; fertilizers; polymers and fibers; process and pollution control equipment and technologies; electronic components, commodity trading; minerals; energy; ranching; glass; and investments.

David H. Koch is an executive vice president and a board member of Koch Industries, Inc. His net worth was estimated at $40 billion.

Sheldon Adelson returned to the Forbes top 10 richest list for the first time since 2007. According to Forbes, he made an average of $32 million a day over the last year as shares of his Las Vegas Sands continued to climb. His net worth was estimated at $38 billion.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc heiress Christy Walton was the highest-ranking woman, in ninth place, at $36.7 billion.

Jim Walton ($34.7 billion) is the youngest son of Walmart founder Sam Walton. Jim Walton has been on the Walmart board since 2005.
