Google announced the Android Wear platform earlier this year, and the LG G Watch (above) and Samsung Gear Live are the first torch-bearers of the platform.
The Wear smartwatches communicate with Android devices like smartphones or tablets over Bluetooth. Note that the LG G Watch (above) does not have any buttons at all.
The LG G Watch comes with a 1.65-inch IPS LCD and features a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage under the hood - but you shouldn't worry too much about the specs when buying a smartwatch.
The G Watch (above) comes with a 400mAh battery that lasts slightly longer than the Samsung on a typical work day. The back features metallic contacts where the charging cradle connects.
LG G Watch (above) and Samsung Gear Live come equipped with Google's voice recognition service and can perform simple tasks including checking email, sending text messages and carrying out an online search at users' voice command.
The Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch (above) are water and dust resistant, which means you can take them into the shower or leave them on while washing hands.
Android Wear comes with a bunch of default apps, but you can download more from Google Play. Apps are downloaded on your smartphone but transferred to the watch.
