Officials in Nilgiris forest with one of the tigers that was found dead.
Chennai:
Two tigers have been found dead in the Nilgiris forest in Tamil Nadu's Anaikatti region.
Veterinarians and senior officials have rushed to the spot to investigate the incident.
A senior officer said, "These deaths appear to be due to territorial fights among tigers. It is mating season now. Our teams would have to walk for three hours to reach the site. We expect more information by today evening".
In August, a cub tigress, that had strayed from the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, was trapped in a goat shed and died due to internal injuries
The Anaikatti region, about 500 kilometres from Tamil Nadu's capital Chennai, is estimated to have around 30 tigers. There are between 50-70 tigers in the neighbouring Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
