Around 1.7 million spectators are expected to watch the Commonwealth Games over 12 days and elaborate plans have been made to cater to their needs, Organising Committee said on Tuesday.
A total of 195 paid staff, supported by a team of 2650 volunteers, will be deployed at the stadiums to guide the visitors, who will come with different categories of tickets, towards the venue, Maj Gen G G Dwivedi, Head of Spectator
Services, told reporters here. The Spectator Services has three main responsibilities - Gate management, Access control and handling the spectator plaza and seating bowl.
The spectator services' job begins as soon as the spectators reached the transport drop-off points. They will meet and greet the visitors and guide them towards the venue.
"Smooth entry will be ensured at the gate through the turnstiles and the security checkpoints. After the entry movement of spectators would be regulated through the spectators plaza to the seating bowl.
"Spectator services staff will provide guidance and assistance. Various facilities like information booths, stroller storage booth, lost and found booth, toilets and medical room would be available for the spectators. They can also purchase food, water and merchandise from the various stalls which would be located inside the plaza," said Dwivedi.
He also informed that there were different categories of tickets for spectators and they would be valid for one-time entry into the stadium.
The ticket validation would be done firstly through soft ticket check by looking at the date, time, venue, sport, gate and session.
"Validation of the bar-coded tickets would be done by the turnstile machines. To ensure that spectators are not inconvenienced, dedicated gates have been marked and would be mentioned on the ticket," Dwivedi said.
For the opening and closing ceremonies, seats will be numbered while there will be open seating for the rest of the events.
"43,500 seats have been reserved for common spectators at the JLN stadium. They will be allowed to enter through designated gates which are 6, 9 and 14," he said.
As part of the security measures, a list of prohibited items has been prepared and these too will be indicated behind the ticket as well as the spectator guide.
"In case, spectators still carry any prohibited item, they would be sensitised to get rid of the same at the Drop-off points or main entry gate," Dwivedi said.
