Seven-year-old Preethi comes from a very humble background is being brought up by her single mother, Lalitha.
Chennai:
One may miss seven-year-old K Preethi's recitation for her school rhymes. But if one listens carefully, they would hear her listing all the 234 assembly constituencies of Tamil Nadu in one go.
That's exactly why the Election Commission has appointed the seven-year-old as an ambassador to raise awareness on voting among youngsters in the Tiruvannamalai district.
The district recorded 79 per cent polling last time. They are aiming at a hundred per cent now.
"I'm so happy the Election Commission has appointed me as an Ambassador. All of you please vote," said Preethi.
The young girl from a very humble background is being brought up by her single mother, Lalitha. It was her school teacher Roosia who spotted her phenomenal memory and groomed her.
The proud mother says, "I've not studied much but my daughter has made us proud. We are so happy. We thank the teachers."
Another teacher, Tamil Mani, said, "Preethi has amazing talent and great memory. There's so much of talent in rural areas but it is seldom recognised."
One crore youth would vote for the first time in Tamil Nadu polls in May. The Election Commission is already active on social media to reach out to urban voters. Around 1000 ambassadors like Preethi are reaching out to rural youth.
