Rupee appreciation to guide steel imports
Last few months have seen a 40 per cent surge in the import of steel due to rupee appreciation. Before 2004, the steel import amounted to only 1 - 1.5 MT, which increased to 4.1 MT last year, marginally less than the steel exports from India.
