Govt to allow private players to import wheat
Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has acknowledged that private traders and food processing giants are picking up bulk of the wheat arrivals, though this will not impact the PDS, which requires approximately 3.5 million tonnes annually. The government is now planning to allow private players to import wheat under the open general license.
