When reports of nearly a 100 people dying of malnutrition in the five closed tea gardens surfaced in 2014, the government sat up and implemented some stop gap measures. But even after this there seems to be no solution in sight for the thousands of workers who are "trapped" in these closed tea gardens in north Bengal. Headlines about malnutrition deaths in these gardens of north Bengal have resulted in heated debates in Parliament. But on the ground, little has changed for these workers. Life holds little promise for those who are living on the edge. A special report.
