On July 14, 2010, the lush field of north coastal Andhra Pradesh turned into a battlefield as thousands of villagers in Sompeta in Srikakulam district took on the police. The locals were protesting against the setting up of a 2640 megawatt thermal power plant, they fear will rob them of their livelihood and turn their green haven into an ash pond.
