Belpahari grapples with poverty
Land in West Midnapore's Belpahari has a different character. It allows cropping only once a year while neighbouring Burdwan harvests at least thrice. Not only is the land here infertile, irrigation facilities are meager, so rainfall determines the farmers' fortunes.
