On Thursday, 5000 brides and grooms across Andhra Pradesh got married in a ceremony sponsored by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam. But in Rajamundry, a 21-year-old bride rebelled, only to be subjected to violent abuse in public view by her parents trying to force her into submission, even as the groom, her aunt's son, looked on.
