In an exclusive interview, CPI(M)'s newly-elected general secretary Sitaram Yechury admits for the first time that the India-US Nuclear Deal wasn't the best reason to walk out of the UPA. Speaking to NDTV on our special series 'The Townhall', Yechury said that while his party remains opposed to the nuclear deal, it "was not an issue on which our withdrawal was probably understood by people, neither could we make them understand". He said that the Left should have parted ways with the UPA on "an issue on which people were already agitated like the price rise at that point of time". Will his party ally with the Congress again? He says Congress policies are such that "we cannot go with them". "The BJP is in government because of the people's discontent that grew because of Congress policies," he adds.
