Agra bank looted of Rs.11 lakh

Agra: A gang of armed robbers struck at a bank branch here as soon as it opened for business on Friday and fled with over Rs.11 lakh, police said.

The Canara Bank branch in Shastripuram had opened at around 10 a.m. on Friday when four or five people barged in and held up at gun point the manager and three other staffers who were taking out currency notes from the bank's chest.

The bank's cashier Rakesh Chauhan was hit on the head with a gun butt and the manager was also roughed up when he tried to resist.

"Rs.11,76,000 is the exact amount looted. We are hopeful very soon the case would be cracked," a police spokesman told Indo-Asian News Service.

Police later said the gang members had come on motorcycles.

The branch was opened only a few months ago and CCTV cameras were still to be installed.
