Agra: A farmer died of cold in Agra late on Tuesday even as the night temperature on Wednesday settled at 2.7 degrees Celsius in the Taj City, which remained the coldest in Uttar Pradesh for the third successive day, officials said.

The farmer died of cold in Saiyan block of Agra.

A dense fog enveloped the city on Wednesday morning and winter chill forced people to wrap themselves up in woollens.

"The morning fog reduced the visibility to almost zero in the morning," said Sudhir Gupta, a city resident.

Although Tuesday was bright and sunny but chilly winds blowing over the city offered no respite from the cold. "Hope it will clear up later in the day," Gupta said.

Tuesday's maximum temperature was 19.9 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal, while the minimum settled at 2.9 degrees, five degrees below the season's average.
