Ahmedabad: In view of the recent blast in Varanasi and terror threats to the state, the city police have geared up to ensure that the tazia procession that begins on Thursday is a peaceful affair.
The procession, one of the biggest to take place in the city, is likely to see 93 tazias on the streets. The city police commissioner has assured citizens of their safety. As many as 15,000 men in uniform are likely to guard the procession.
"We have made the required arrangements and hope to ensure that everything goes off smoothly and devotees don't face any trouble. We are ready to tackle any eventuality," said city police commissioner Amitabh Pathak.
Three DCPs, three ACPs, 26 inspectors and 230 Lok Rakshak Dals (LRDs), five companies of Special Reserve Police (SRP), one platoon of women SRP, one company of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and 2800 home guard jawans among others will be on duty during the procession.
According to Pathak, the procession will pass through 13 police stations including Gaikward Haveli, Karanj, Khanpur, and Shahpur among others.
"To provide security along the eight routes of the procession, the policemen will be divided into five groups. Group 'A' will take care of three routes, while group 'C' will be responsible for two with 'B', 'D,' and 'E' groups following one route each. There will also be 17 surveillance video cameras," Pathak said.
