Around 300 workers at the Tata Motors plant in Sanand have gone on a flash strike.
Ahmedabad:
Around 300 workers at the Tata Motors plant in Sanand have gone on a flash strike since Monday demanding reinstatement of 28 workmen who had been suspended for alleged indiscipline.
Sources said that the trouble started two months ago when two workers were suspended for alleged misconduct. The remaining workers agitated and demanded reinstatement of the two but later the management suspended 26 more workers fueling further trouble.
The agitating workers allegedly ransacked the property on the plant site on Monday leading to police intervention. They also sat on a dharna yesterday.
A statement by the company officials said that the management is in talks with the workers to resolve the issue and the plant is currently operational.
"While the management team is continuing to make efforts to talk to the workmen on strike and convince them to restore normalcy, plant operations are simultaneously continuing. There have been continued agitations for further monetary increases as well as protests against disciplinary actions against those instigating the workmen, resulting in serious threat to company personnel as well as losses due to tampering," the release said.
