Ahmedabad police offer 'Help in Emergency' app on cell-phones

Ahmedabad: Cyber Crime Cell of Ahmedabad Crime Branch has come up with a mobile phone application called HIE, which facilitates a quick contact with friend/relative during emergency.

"Help In Emergency is an application developed to help citizens in emergency, especially the women during night," Crime Branch sub-inspector T R Bhatt said.

Developed by Yash Rajpurohit, a cybercrime consultant with the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB), the application is supported by Android 2.0.

"Citizens can fill in details in the specified format on app. The details reach the recipient whose help has been sought within seconds on pressing a button," said Rajpurohit, a 23-year-old engineering graduate from Rajasthan.

Once the app is downloaded, an icon shows up on the phone's home-screen.

"The message on the recipient's cellphone helps police in tracing the place of the incident. Police can reach the spot as quickly as possible," he said.

"This was developed after the gang-rape in New Delhi where no one came to the help of the 23-year-old girl and her male friend," said Rajpurohit.
