Ahmedabad:
Bollywood producer Prakash Chandani, who is under the watch of the police for his alleged role in an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket, was today detained by the immigration officials at Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad and later handed over to the police.
Co-producer of film '
Gali-Gali Chor Hai', Mr Chandani, against whom a lookout notice was released by the investigating agencies, was detained by the immigration officials after he arrived at the airport on an Emirates flight from Dubai, an airport official said.
He has been handed over to the Sardarnagar police station, he said.
The police officials confirmed they have the custody of Mr Chandani, who is wanted in a case related to forgery in Mumbai. He will be taken to Mumbai soon, they said.
Mr Chandani's name had figured in an IPL betting racket during the interrogation of an arrested bookie, police said.
On May 17, Mumbai police had arrested six betters, including two top bookies Sonu Malad alias Batiya and Deven Kothari alias Bhaiji, on the charge of pledging money on IPL cricket matches.
Mr Chandani was staying in Dubai and is said to be working as the second-in-command to top bookie Sunil Abhuchandani alias Sunil Dubai.
