Ahmedabad: The daughter-in-law of a senior Gujarat police officer filed a complaint against him, his son and five other family members on Friday for allegedly torturing her for raising her voice against her husband's alleged affair.

According to the FIR, the woman got married to the officer's son in December 2011 in Gandhinagar district.

As per her complaint, she recently discovered that her husband was having an affair. Upon being exposed, her husband left her and moved in with the other woman. She has alleged that her husband refused to divorce her and instead tortured her.

In her complaint, the woman has also alleged that her father-in-law - a Deputy Inspector General of Police rank officer - tried to intimidate her and took the side of his son against her. Along with his other family members he both "physically and mentally" tortured her for weeks.

The woman, who is a native of Vadali in Gujarat, finally managed to escape and file a complaint with the police.

"We have lodged an FIR against seven people, including the police officer, his son and the woman's husband, and five other family members," sub-inspector RR Desai said.
