Ahmedabad:
Over 20,000 Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) landline phone connections stopped functioning due to a fire in the Navrangpura Telephone Exchange today, officials said.
The fire broke out due to short-circuit on the third floor of the BSNL office which houses a call centre and telephone exchange. There was no casualty in the incident, the officials said.
The office of the Chief General Manager of BSNL (Gujarat circle) is on the seventh floor of the same building.
According to the fire department, the entire call centre and the exchange room were engulfed in the blaze, which took a couple of hours to be doused.
BSNL officials said that over 20,000 landline phone connections were affected due to the incident and most of them turned dead.
Technicians were trying to restore the building's electricity supply and the landlines would e restored at the earliest, the officials said.
