Ahmedabad: Gold worth around Rs 80 lakh was today seized from a passenger from Dubai at Ahmedabad International Airport in Ahmedabad, customs officials said.
Three kilograms of gold was concealed in an audio amplifier in a bid to dodge security checks at the airport. The accused Sarfaraz Khan, a resident of Mumbai, arrived here from Dubai through an Emirates flight, a statement by the customs department said.
When officials checked his language, they found an audio amplifier and grew suspicious about it. After opening it, officials found a coil of wire made from gold concealed inside the amplifier, it said.
The seized gold is valued at Rs 79.95 lakh. Khan has been detained and investigations are underway, the statement added.
