It will be the selection of the better than the best at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA). The institute will acknowledge and felicitate the best of the alumni in its grand alumni function to be held on December 25 and 26. The function will be organised as part of its golden jubilee year celebration. The institute has also chalked out a unique way to select prominent alumni who has made a difference and added to the repute of the institute.
Talking about the initiative, dean of alumni and external relationships at IIMA Prof Atanu Ghosh said that they have selected a special procedure to choose the best of the alumni.
"We have asked all the alumni to select three best of the distinguished alumni who they think have made a special mark and should be felicitated. While choosing the names, they will also have to cite the reason for choosing the particular person. The name that will appear on the majority of the alumni's list will be felicitated during the grand alumni meet," explained Ghosh.
He added that the alumni will be given specific categories of fields from where the best of the candidates can be chosen. Such categories include fields like academic, corporate, social entrepreneur, government and public sector, etc. He said the idea to include alumni to choose the distinguished alumni was suggested by the IIMA community members.
This year, during the golden jubilee year celebration, IIMA have provided a platform to its alumni, who instead of joining the top-notch corporate houses went ahead and made a difference by coming up with their own initiatives. According to Prof Ghosh, there are around 9, 000 alumni of full-time courses like PGP, PGPX, FPM, ABM etc and around 20,000 alumni of short term courses offered at the institute.
