Ahmedabad:
The police on Saturday arrested a man who allegedly chopped off the hand of a police head constable at Aadundra village of Kadi taluka in Mehsana.
The accused is mentally unstable, according to the police.
"We have arrested Vishnu Patel, of Aadundara village, who attacked the head constable Amrutji Thakore with a sword, cutting off his wrist," officials said.
The head constable had gone to make inquiries about a complaint lodged by Vishnu's brother, Suresh.
After attacking Thakore, Vishnu fled, pushing off his mother and hitting a child, injuring both of them, police said.
Thakore has been admitted to a private hospital here.
Vishnu is a former deputy mamlatdar (taluka level revenue officer) and known to be mentally unstable, police said
