In a major fire incident, property worth crores was burnt to ashes in Ahmedabad in the wee hours of Monday. As many as 90 fire officials struggled for five hours to bring the fire under control.
According to fire officials, few minutes before 3 am on Monday, they received a message informing that four offices at Panch Bungalow near Gita Mandir bus stand have caught fire. New Sayonara Decorators, Umiya Vijay Saw Mill, Sunderlala K Shah and VG Labour's offices were the four buildings that were burnt to ashes.
According to Rajesh Bhatt, deputy chief fire officer, it took 12 water tankers and two fire fighters including 90 staff to control the fire.
According to sources, property worth over Rs1 crore was burnt in the incident. The fire officials cited bonfire as the reason behind the incident. They said that the bonfire was reportedly left unattended while it was still smoldering.
"It was sheer negligence that has caused the incident. Our men had to struggle a lot to control the fire. The area is so congested that it badly affected our fire controlling exercise and took us many hours to bring the fire under control," said a fire official.
On the other hand, according to fire officials, three dogs were burnt to death in the incident, while two were rescued by the officials.
