Ahmedabad: Three unidentified persons looted Rs 11.21 lakh from a local branch of Canara Bank in broad daylight in Ahmedabad on Saturday, police said.
"Around 1 pm, three unidentified persons, probably in their twenties, came to the bank and suddenly brandished a country-made pistol before the cashier and ran away with all the money from the cash-box," S G Bhati, Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) sector-2 said.
According to police, two other persons, who had covered their faces, came inside the bank and pushed all the bank employees, including the cashier, into the branch manager's cabin.
They also disconnected the landline phones in the bank, snatched the mobile phones of all the employees and later ran away with those handsets as well, they added.
"Despite a notification issued by the police commissioner's office, making it mandatory to install CCTV cameras in all the banks, the Soni Chawl branch of Canara Bank doesn't have it," Mr Bhati said.
Police have registered an FIR against three persons and asked the bank cashier and other 3 staff members, including the bank manager to help an artist in drawing a sketch of the accused.
"We have immediately called for the nakabandi around the city and we are hopeful to nab the culprits very soon," he said.
