Ahmedabad:
The city will sport a different look on Thursday as huge tazias will be taken out in a procession to mark the ongoing Muharram. As many as 93 tazias are expected at this year's procession.
More than 10,000 people of different religions are expected to participate in this procession. JV Momin, general secretary of Gujarat Tazia Committee, said, "Adding to the 93 large tazias, there will also be 32 tazias from akhada groups, along with 28 music bands."
Moreover, the long line of different vehicles accompanying the procession will be a sight to behold. Sixteen trucks and as many camel carts have been ordered for the procession, Momin said.
Interestingly, even religious preparations have caught up to the latest technology. With the new computerised designing, the work of carving, colouring and designing the tazias has become simpler and more accurate.
Habib Mev, joint secretary of Tazia Committee, Ahmedabad, said, "This year the latest Japanese technology has been utilised for designing of tazias. This process has been going on for the past one and half months."
Speaking about the tazias, Habib said that some of the tazias of the city have been replicated to showcase the famous and the beautiful tazia of Karbala (Iraq). Regarding its historical significance, Habib said that this procession is taken out to remember and mourn the Battle of Karbala, in Iraq, fought between Imam Hussain and Umayad.
The processions, after traversing different routes, will converge at Khanpur Darwaza, their final destination.
