Ahmedabad:
The alleged sexual abuse incident of a foreign national by an auto-rickshaw driver took an ironic turn today when the driver's wife was sacked by the school where she worked. She was reportedly dismissed by the school authorities a day after the report involving her husband was published in the city's media.
"The authorities of Elite Shayona School where I was working for Rs50 a day, asked me to leave at once. I was working there for the last couple of months. Now, I don't know what to do, especially as I have 3 children to take care of," said Manju, wife of auto-driver Puran Dhobi.
Puran allegedly assaulted a Taiwanese national in his auto and sexually abused her. He will remain in police custody for 8 days and there is little chance of him getting out in the near future.
The entire episode has come as a catastrophe for the Dhobi family, which hails from Bhilwada district in Rajasthan and has been living in Hebatnagar in Sola area for the last few years.
On Wednesday, Manju was seen trying to persuade Vastrapur police officials to let her talk to her husband who is in the station's lock-up. Clinging on to her three toddlers -- one-year-old Maya, one-and-half-year old Sangeeta and two-year-old Sunil -- outside the police station, she said it wasn't her or her children's fault.
"The sole bread earner is behind bars. We will starve to death," Manju sobbed.
