18 killed as truck runs over sleeping pilgrims in Gujarat

At least 18 pilgrims were killed when a truck lost control and ran over them on Bagodara highway in Ahmedabad on Wednesday night, police said.

The incident took place near Bejwa crossroad on the highway.

The victims were on their way to Bhadiyad Peer Dargah at Dholka.

They had taken a break and were sleeping on the roadside.

While 16 persons died on the spot, some others were injured, police said.

The injured were admitted to the VS Hospital in Ahmedabad.

Two of them died at the hospital due to the injuries.

It is difficult for them to come to terms with the harsh reality.

The man is inconsolable after having lost his dear ones in the accident.

The injured are being taken to the hospital.
