Navy attempts to salvage MV Wisdom from Juhu beach

The Indian navy began operations on Thursday to salvage a massive cargo ship MV Wisdom from the Juhu Beach in Mumbai.

The MV wisdom had become a major attraction for the locals when it ran aground Juhu Beach on Saturday.

MV Wisdom had first drifted dangerously close to the Bandra-Worli Sea link before it ran aground Juhu beach.

The hull and anchor of the ship are intact making it easier to move the Wisdom. The ship is reportedly headed towards Gujarat.

The MV Wisdom was being tugged from Colombo to the Alang shipyard in Gujarat to be dismantled when the cable to its tow-boat collapsed.

Environmentalists were concerned about the Wisdom being so close to Juhu Beach as the monsoons hit the city.

Naval helicopters dropped steel cables and equipment onto the MV Wisdom so that the company that's now taken over can start moving the ship.

Reports suggest that Wisdom, owned by a company in Singapore, weighs 9,000 tons.
