Allahabad:
Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested the prime accused in a 21-year-old double murder case in Allahabad.
Acting on a tip-off, a police party arrested 48-year-old Gaurishankar from Keedganj area, a police spokesman said adding that a country-made pistol, some ammunition and three crude bombs were also recovered from his possession.
Gaurishankar was the prime accused in the murder case of Ramkrishna, a city-based advocate who was gunned down along with his bodyguard in the city's Colonelganj locality on November 29, 1989, the spokesman said.
Four persons, besides Gaurishankar, were named in the murder case as co-accused out of which two are yet to be traced while the remaining two had been gunned down in a police encounter in Lucknow nearly a decade ago.
Gaurishankar, who has been named in a number of criminal cases in addition to the double murder, had been hiding in the neighbouring district of Kaushambi for quite some time and of late had been trying to revive his "network" in the city, the spokesman claimed.
