Allahabad: A rape convict allegedly committed suicide inside the high-security Naini Central Prison, situated on the outskirts of Allahabad, by hanging himself from the ceiling of the toilet on Friday.
Bansi Lal, a native of Rae Bareli district, had been lodged in the prison since 2006 after being convicted in a rape case, Senior Superintendent of the Naini Central Jail Ambrish Gaur said.
He said that Lal was apparently depressed over the disgrace brought upon him by his involvement in the heinous crime and his subsequent conviction.
