UP Board results: Girls outperform boys in High School exams

Allahabad: Girls outperformed boys in the high school examinations of Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board, results of which were declared in Allahabad on Friday.

The success rate of girls was 88.95 per cent as compared to the 79.61 pass percentage of the boys in the state.

Announcing the results, Director of Secondary Education Vasudev Yadav told reporters that about 35.4 lakh candidates had appeared for the examinations out of which 29.8 lakh were declared successful.

The overall pass percentage stood at 83.75 per cent.

While the overall pass percentage this year rose by 12.93 per cent compared to last year, that of boys saw an improvement of 13.58 per cent while girls registered an increase of 12.03 per cent, Mr Yadav said, adding that the number of candidates this year grew by more than 82,000.

Among the districts, Varanasi emerged as the top performer with 92.13 per cent candidates securing pass marks, followed by Baghpat  at 91.08 per cent and Maharajganj at 90.76 per cent. Lalitpur stood at the bottom with a pass percentage of 70.81.

Other than Varanasi, none of the other districts with a reputation for academic pursuits like Allahabad, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra and Aligarh, figured among the top 10 performers this year.
