Amritsar: Officials of the Border Security Force or BSF and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Amritsar have arrested two alleged smugglers in Ferozepur bordering Pakistan and seized 31 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin.

The contraband is expected to cost around Rs 150 crores in international market. A 9 mm pistol, four magazines and 61 live bullets were also seized during a raid in Barreke village of Ferozepur.

Keeping the vulnerability of the border areas in mind and an increase in smuggling along the border, the BSF has issued operational guidelines to its personnel in all sectors under the Punjab Frontier for strengthening border domination, officials said.

This has been done to effectively check any infiltration attempt and activities of "anti-national elements" on Punjab's 461 km border with Pakistan.

Officials said a special joint operation carried out by the BSF and DRI led to the arrests of the two alleged smugglers Prakash Singh, 24, and Angrej Singh, 20. The two were carrying 31 packets of contraband believed to be the narcotic Heroin.
