Amritsar: 14 kg heroin smuggled from Pakistan seized, one arrested

Amritsar: Fourteen kg of heroin worth Rs 70 crore in the international market and arms and ammunition
was recovered from a smuggler, who was later arrested.

On a tip off, Sukhbir Singh, resident of the border village of Sarai Amanat Khan, was arrested with 14 kg of heroin, an imported automatic pistol of 30 bore, two magazines along with 12 live cartridges among other arms and ammunition, an official of Special Operation Cell of Punjab police said.

During the preliminary interrogation, Singh said that the consignment of drugs, arms and  ammunition was smuggled to India from Pakistan a few days back. He also told the interrogators that there was another person, present at the time of his arrest, who managed to escape.

The accused was in touch with Pakistani smugglers across the border constantly, he said.
