Amritsar:
An alleged drug smuggler was arrested and five kilograms of heroin worth Rs 25 crore in the international market seized from his possession, officials said on Saturday.
On a tip off, the Special Operation Cell of Counter- Intelligence (SOC) intercepted Mr Singh on the outskirts of the city when he was on his way to deliver the consignment on Friday.
Officials said five kg heroin and one foreign made automatic pistol with five live cartridges were allegedly found in his possession.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Arms Act has been registered against Mr Singh, a resident of Sarai Amanat Khan village in Tarn Taran district.
He was arrested by SOC last year but had managed to escape from the Amritsar Jail.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the seized consignment of Heroin, arms and ammunition was recently smuggled from Pakistan.
