A 20-year-old girl, who came from Ludhiana to visit the Golden Temple here, was allegedly thrashed and kept in illegal confinement by a policeman.
Sandeep Kaur was "detained illegally and thrashed" by Nirmal Singh, posted at the Golden Temple Police Station, Superintendent of Police S P Joshi said on Sunday.
Nirmal took the girl, staying in a Sikh Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) guest house, to the police station saying she had come to the city without informing her parents.
Even the in-charge of the police station was kept in dark about this, the SP said.
The girl, who came to the city on Saturday night, had been handed over to her parents he said, adding Nirmal Singh had been placed under suspension.
