The Border Security Force on Friday morning seized nearly 250 grams of heroin near a Border Out Post at the international border.
BSF jawans, while on routine patrol, found a slipper close to the international border. Their suspicion grew when the slipper was found to be much heavier than normal.
On removing the stitching of the slipper, they found heroin stashed inside.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Amritsar range MF Farooqi told reporters that it could be a new trick adopted by peddlers to pass on the drug consignment to the farmers who have land on the border beyond the fencing. Some of these farmers are lured by the peddlers to act as couriers.
"Heroin concealed in the footwear must have been kept for the courier. Though it's a chance recovery but it will certainly make us more alert about the new methods of the peddlers," said the officer.
Earlier, drug peddlers use to hide heroin in plastic pipes and pushed it through the fence. But when BSF seized huge consignments, they switched to different tricks to push in small consignment to avoid losses.
