Amritsar:
After spending 17 days behind bars, Sikh hardliner and Khalsa Action Committee chairman Mohkam Singh and his colleague today walked free after the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted them bail yesterday.
Singh and co-accused Balwant Singh Gopala were taken into preventive custody on March 29, a day after Punjab observed a bandh against the death sentence awarded to Babbar Khalsa militant Balwant Singh Rajoana.
Speaking after the release, a spokesman of the radical Sikh organisation Dal Khalsa slammed the Punjab government for not releasing these detainees despite repeated calls by the Akal Takht's Jathedar in this regard.
Spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh also accused the Akali Dal government in the state of detaining Sikh leaders for mere political reasons.
