Amritsar: A 17-year-old boy chopped off his tongue at Goddess Chawenda Devi temple, 30 kilometers outside Amritsar, to appease the deity.
Baljit Singh was rushed to nearby hospital where his tongue was stitched back by a team of doctors. His condition is said to be stable.
Temple priest Brij Mohan first saw Baljit in a pool of blood and raised an alarm.
Baljit is a regular visitor at the temple, his family members and the priest said.
