Amritsar: A woman in Amritsar filed a police case against her husband for raping their seven-year-old daughter. Two days later, she killed the girl and then tried to commit suicide because she was tired of being harassed by her husband's relatives.
Sakshi Devi, the 40-year-old woman, is recovering in a hospital after trying to slit her veins. A suicide note she left behind in her home said, "I did not give her birth, but that doesn't mean I don't love her." The daughter who Sakshi stabbed and killed was adopted from a relative.
"She used to keep telling us that she was depressed, we didn't believe her, we should have," a relative of the woman said sobbing.
Sakshi's husband was arrested on July 7, the day she filed her complaint against him.
A case of murder and attempt to commit suicide has been registered against Sakshi.
