8 Dead After Heavy Rain In Andhra Pradesh's Guntur, Hyderabad Schools Closed
Hyderabad: At least eight people have died in flood-hit Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh after two days of heavy rain. A high alert has been declared in Hyderabad after more rain was forecast over the next few days.

Here are the latest developments:

  1. The government declared a two-day holiday for all educational institutions in Hyderabad while IT companies were urged to provide a work from home option to the employees.

  2. In the neighbouring Guntur district, unprecedented rain forced at least 5,000 people to be brought out of their homes and villages to relief camps.

  3. Rail link between Secunderabad and Guntur was cut off for over 30 hours after damage to some railway tracks.  

  4. Choppers were deployed in the rescue operations, while passenger trains were delayed.

  5. Rivulets in Guntur district are in spate, inundating housing colonies in Sattenapalli town and nearby villages.

  6. With water level in Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of  Hyderabad city reaching full tank level and water being let out through a surplus drain, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) alerted people living in areas along this drain. All three parks surrounding the lake have been closed for public.

  7. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao reviewed the situation on Friday and urged the centre to provide help for relief operations.

  8. Deputy Chief Minister N China Rajappa, who has been touring the state to oversee the rescue-and-relief operations in the flood-hit areas, has directed the officials to be on a "high alert".

  9. He also announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.

  10. About 40 passengers were rescued near Krosuru village in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday after their bus got stuck in flood waters.
