Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has asked TDP lawmakers to take initiatives in getting funds from the Centre for relief and rehabilitation works in the rain-ravaged districts of the state.

According to preliminary estimation, loss in flood affected districts is estimated at around Rs 300 crore and the government has sought Rs 1,000 crore as immediate relief from the Centre, an official press release issued in Vijayawada said.

The chief minister was heading a meeting of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha lawmakers of his party to take a stock of the relief and rehabilitation works after last week's heavy rains.

Chittoor, Nellore, Kadapa and Anantapur districts of coastal Andhra last week witnessed unprecedented heavy downpour that claimed as many as 35 lives and damaged property worth crores of rupees.

He said though the Centre has granted Rs 50 crore for relief operations in Tamil Nadu, but so far no relief package has been declared for Andhra Pradesh.
