Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu tonight said that the government had decided to rename Rajahmundry city in the East Godavari district as 'Rajamahendravaram'.
A Government Order (GO) on this will be issued soon, he added, addressing a press conference on the last day of 12-day Godavari Pushakaram festival here.
The new name is derived from a Chalukya dynasty ruler of the 11th century who ruled over the city.
The city, located on the banks of Godavari, is the headquarters of Rajahmundry urban and Rural mandals.
