Temple authorities said they had not faced major problems and that forty to sixty thousand pilgrims had continued to visit the shrine every day.
Tirupati:
The temple town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh that has been lashed by rain for the last two weeks, finally saw the Sun on Tuesday, bringing relief both to local residents and visitors.
As low-lying areas were inundated, many pilgrims wondered whether it was safe to visit the famous Tirumala temple.
"The last two days were very rainy. But that with a lower number of visitors, the queue at the temple to see the idol was shorter than usual," said Geeta, whose family was among the few that had braved the trip all the way from Mumbai.
Chittoor District Commissioner Siddartha Jain said, "A big challenge was the gradient between Tirumala and lower lying Tirupati - which saw rain water gushing down the hill."
Temple authorities said they had not faced major problems and that forty to sixty thousand pilgrims had continued to visit the shrine every day.
With Tuesday being a rain-free day, the town is even easier to visit now. "It is such a relief to see sunshine again," Dr Girish, a local resident, said.
