Buy A Brick For Andhra's Capital: Chandrababu Naidu's Message To Children

Land acquisition for the new capital has been a huge success story.

Children should have a stake in the state's new capital: With this idea, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has asked each of the state's 70 lakh students to buy a brick for Amravati. The 3 lakh teachers have also been roped into the project.

The administration officials have been asked to collect the money by January 10.

Mr Naidu had launched the e-brick initiative in October. Under the My Capital, My Amaravati, My Brick programme, the people were asked to pay Rs 10 per head for at least one brick of the new capital city, which will be built on the banks of river Krishna in Guntur district.

So far, 2.2 lakh people have contributed 52.9 lakh bricks for Amravati.

An expert committee formed to plan for the new capital has said it will cost around Rs 27,000 crore. Who is going to fund that whopping amount has been a big question. A fund of Rs. 1,850 crore has been provided to the successor state of Andhra Pradesh for state capital and infrastructure facility during 2014-15 and 2015-16.

But Mr Naidu has said every person of the state should have a stake in the new capital and to that end, the e-brick initiative was taken.

Land acquisition for the new capital has been a huge success story.
