Tirupati: A devotee of Lord Venkateswara of the famous hill shrine at nearby Tirumala today made a donation of Rs 1.01 crore with a request to use it for treating poor suffering from major illnesses at hospitals run by the temple administration.
NS Padmanabhan handed over a bank demand draft for Rs 1,00,11,101/- to KS Srinivasa Raju, Joint Executive Officer of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which administers the cash-rich temple and also runs various institutions including hospitals.
The devotee, hailing from Delhi, requested the TTD to use the money for TTD Sri Venkateswara Praanadaana Trust (SVPT) meant for free medical facilities to poor patients suffering from life threatening ailments at the TTD run hospitals in Tirupati, temple Public Relations Officer T Ravi told PTI.
In August this year, tech major HCL Chairman Shiv Nadar had made an offering of Rs one crore and one (Rs 1,00,00,001) to the hill shrine.
He had requested the TTD to use the offering for TTD run Sri Venkateswara Balamandir Trust extending to orphaned and destitute children in Tirupati.
