Hyderabad: As part of police reforms, Andhra Pradesh government has decided to set up Greater Hyderabad Police Commissionerate for the state capital by merging the existing Hyderabad and Cyberabad police pommissionerates.
State DGP V Dinesh Reddy made this announcement during a press conference.
He said that the new Greater Hyderabad Police Commissionerate would be headed by the chief commissioner ofthe rank of Additional DGP. The merger of both the commissionerates would take place soon, he said.
Presently, Hyderabad Police Commissionerate looks after the law and order in the state capital while variousareas on the city outskirts fall under Cyberabad police commissionerate causing inconvenience to general public.
The police chief said there would be four police commissioners under the proposed Greater Hyderabad PoliceCommissionerate and under each police commissioner there would be 20-25 police stations.
The proposed zones under the new commissionerate would be Hyderabad, Hyderabad South, Secunderabad and Cyberabad andeach zone would be headed by a police commissioner, he said.
To a query the DGP said all the four police commissioners will be entrusted with the same powers as of thepresent commssioners of Hyderabad and Cyberabad.
The Chief Commissioner would coordinate with other commissioners for efficient and better policing.
The DGP said, a committee, comprising five top police officers, including Hyderabad city police commissioner A KKhan and Cyberabad commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao would study and submit a report in next three weeks.
